About Me

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Iowa specializing in Medieval Literature and Culture. Whether in the stanzas of ornate court poetry or a letter scrawled on a scrap of parchment, the ways in which the peoples of the Middle Ages communicated with one another lies at the heart of my research. My infatuation with the history of the book, as an artifact and object, propelled me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science and a certificate in book studies from the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. The research I’ve conducted and the training I’ve underwent all serves to fuel my passion for teaching and sharing the knowledge I’ve acquired.
Dissertation
My dissertation, Epistolary Aesthetics: Messengers and Messaging in 14th Century English Romance examines the under-explored role of messengers in fourteenth-century English romances, where they often prove to be crucial elements of the plot or interesting stand-ins for an authorial function. I anticipate defending the dissertation in April of 2025. This project has resulted in the successful publication of an excerpt from the first chapter entitled, “Misdo No Messenger: Death and Delivery in the Alliterative Morte Arthure,” in Arthuriana 33:1 (Spring 2023).
